My husband and I have been coming to the Cabot Trail for many years and have stayed in many different accommodations over that time. The cottages at Back Cove are without a doubt the nicest place we have stayed during our many visits. The cottage is very well appointed with gorgeous views from just about every window, a lovely covered porch . Kathy the owner is very accommodating and helpful and made our stay even more pleasant. We stayed five days and were able to do quite a few wonderful hikes from this location and will certainly return.

This is an absolutely wonderful cottage to say in. It is right beside the ocean and you can watch and listen to the waves crashing on the rocks. The accommodation is very, very clean and well stocked and the decor is so charming. The hostess Kathy is very friendly and welcoming. All in all, it is a perfect place to spend a few days while travelling the Cabot trail. September 2024

We absolutely loved our stay here! We got lucky calling the day before our arrival. Kathy is so nice and kind. I was so overwhelmed with joy on how perfect this cottage is. Can't say enough good things about our stay. Thank you for your hospitality.

I have stayed in both the Shoal Point and Back Cove cottages that Kathy manages, and both were an incredible experience. My husband and I stayed at Back Cove this July for our honeymoon, and we couldn't have asked for a more relaxing and romantic setting as we listened to the waves crashing on the rocks every day. The cottages are beautiful, spacious, well equipped, and you have access to WiFi (and TV If you really feel a need...). There is plenty of hiking and wonderful seafood in the area, and the people couldn't be any more friendly or welcoming. Even with the iffy weather during our stay, we did so much and as little as we wanted, all at the same time. There is even a resort close by for a spa day and romantic dinner. We will be back as often as possible. My husband had never been to the area, and he is absolutely in love (as am I)! We highly recommend these cottages, and you are in wonderful hands with Kathy.

We stayed here the end of July. It is the kind of place I did not want to leave. The little village of Neil's Harbour we found a couple years ago we loved the beach and decided to make our stay here this year when we went. The pictures on this website to do not do the place justice. We stayed in the Back Cove Cottage and it had everything you needed. The view was amazing with the deck over looking the ocean with a firepit out front and some Adirondack chairs. Would go back here and stay in a second. This was by far the best place we have stayed in all our travels in the East Coast.

Back Cove Cottage is the kind of place I would like to stay in every holiday. The cottage has everything you could need and the proximity to the ocean and the view from the deck and the firepit with its Adirondack chairs is mesmerising. Neils Harbour is an excellent base for discovering the northern and eastern parts of Cape Breton Island. Whale-watching out of Bay St Lawrence, the drive along the coast to Ingonish, stargazing from the deck and searching for sea glass on the beautiful beach at Neils Harbour were highlights of our trip. Back Cove Cottage was the best place we stayed on our 2 week road trip around Nova Scotia.

Thank you Kathy for a wonderful stay this past weekend. It was so very nice to have someone check in during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. Everything in the cottage was impeccable. Being on the water with a spectacular view is just what the doctor ordered for all 3 of us. I can not thank you enough for this wonderful experience.

We spent two nights at the Back Cove cottage & absolutely loved. There was not 1 thing that Kathy could have done different to make the cottage more enjoyable. The views were out of this world & we had great weather to sit outside & enjoy them. We have stayed at many cottages in northern Ontario, but nothing compares to this stay at Back Cove. Next time will definitely be a longer stay.

What a lovely place to make as a base when exploring Cape Breton. Cozy, clean, well appointed cottage - right on the shoreline! Absolutely beautiful swimming beach a 5 min walk away.. and the grocery store a 3 min walk! Kathy was an excellent hostess, making sure we had all we needed. The highlight was the wonderful sounds of the waves lulling us of to sleep each evening. Beautiful, peacefull spot to spend a week.

We spent a wonderful week in Neil’s Harbour. The cottage was very clean and really comfortable. We were able to ‘eat in’ quite a bit as the kitchen had everything we needed and the grocery store that you can walk to. It was so nice to have our morning coffee sitting on the deck, listening to the waves break on the rocks and enjoy the amazing view. Kathy is an excellent host, she got us fresh lobsters from a local fisherman, and gave us some good tips on places to eat and visit in the area. If you want a place to relax and get away from it all, this is it.

The cottage #200 we stayed in was so nice. It was clean, neat and simply decorated. We had everything we needed. We loved the sound of the sea lapping on the rocks and had the windows open at night. Kathy was great, she got us 4 lobsters from the local fishermen and cooked them for us....so good! We would definitely come again!

The cottage looked very nice on the website but we were even happier with it than we expected. The view was amazing, the porches a real treat, the cottage was very attractive and clean and well stocked for all our needs, and Kathy was very friendly and helpful. We stayed for two nights but will definitely stay longer on our next trip to Nova Scotia.

Fabulous place to stay! Kathy is a wonderful host and quickly available to answer any questions. The cottage is cozy and comfortable. We ate most of our meals "in" and the kitchen is well equipped. We could hear the sound of the ocean even in the bedroom. We can't wait to come back!

We had a great one night stay at the Back Cove Cottage. The cottage was beautiful, tastefully decorated, and an unbelievable location. The water is not more than 30 yards from the cottage, so we enjoyed the chairs on the front yard, as well as those on the deck, taking in the views. The owner was so easy to work with and took care if our every need. This was our best accommodation in our 2 week stay in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

What a perfect place to stay during our trip to Nova Scotia The cottage was immaculate an well stocked. Sitting on our deck listening to the waves crashing on the rocks below was so peaceful and relaxing. The tiny village was a welcome respite after staying in larger cities like Halifax and Yarmouth. Got a real feel for Cape Breton after staying here! There are no restaurants in the village except for the Chowerhouse and I would mot recommend it. There is a grocery store you can walk to and get food to cook at the cottage. Gas grill and plenty of pots and pans to use. Again, a nice change after eating in restaurants throughout our trip. Would definitely add back Cove Cottages to your itinerary!

My sister and I stayed at the cottage for 8 fantastic days in June. Kathy is wonderful and made us feel at home.Hiking trails on the ocean are within a 10 min. drive. We could walk to the grocery store and the Chowder House restaurant if we were too tired to cook in the fully equipped kitchen. There is a 2mile long sand beach at Cabot's Landing. I loved getting up early and sitting on the deck watching the lobster boats. We ate lobster, cooked our own mussels, bought at the nearby mussel farm. We are booked for next summer. Did I mention that sun shone every day. We love this place and the people. Thank-you Kathy

It has been a while since I have visited the East Coast and Back Cove cottages. I fell in love with Back Cove many years ago and returned many times and hope to again soon. Kathy is one of the most down to earth people you will ever meet and is a wonderful host for this incredible place. You are close to everything you need and this is truly a home away from home. My fondest memories of the East Coast always include my stays at Back Cove Cottages! For sure one of the most spectacular hidden gems in all of Atlantic Canada. Best sunrises anywhere (from the deck) The sound of the waves from the master bedroom make for the best sleeps ever! Incredible spot, great rates and some of the best people you will ever meet. Can't recommend Back Cove Cottages enough. I miss the hospitality very much and cannot wait to return to my true home away from home!

Shoal Point of Back Cove Cottages was the high point of our Maritime road trip vacation.Everything you need is here. It is the best kept secret of Cape Breton Island.
